Feldspar is a combination of many related minerals. The name feldspar is derived by the German Feld meaning field and Spar meaning easily cleaved material. Feldspar was collected by Apollo 16 from the Lunar Highlands near Descartes Crater. This sample is currently on display at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington.

Feldspar was used widely in ornamental manufacturing. There is a variety of Feldspar types available. A combination of albite and orthoclase feldspar is called Moonstone. Moonstone is opalescent, with a blue or white scheen, sometimes called "schiller", resembling moonshine. The blue sheen is due to the natural combination if minerals. Moonstone is the birthstone of the month of June. The sodium-aluminium silicate variety of the feldspar is called Anorthoclase and is named as Amazonite. The soda and lime variety is called Andesine/ Labradorite. The yellow green variety if the sunstone is the Oligoclase variety if feldspar. The oligoclase is an intermediate mineral of albite and Anorthite. Feldspar is widely available in the world and is earth rich potassium mineral. The most commonly known sources are Tanzania, Brazil, Germany, Myanmar, Mexico and Srilanka.

The most common uses of feldspar are in the making of ceramics and glassware and in household ware. It is also used in cleaning certain products and also as an anticonstipation drug.
